Evolution of the Land Rover Logo

LAND ROVER LOGO EVOLUTION
1948-1968
The first Land Rover logo featured a dark gray, almost black, oval with a silver outline and italicized lettering. The signature “Z” connection between the words “Land” and “Rover” is still in use today. The brand’s name was not the only text of the original Land Rover logo. There was also mentioned “Solihull Warwickshire” and “England” to celebrate the brand’s origin, universality, reliability, and functionality.
1968-1978
The Land Rover colors on the logo changed black with silver text. Starting to look more like the modern day logo mark, the typeface became bolder and stronger, with the brand’s name standing out to evoke a sense of confidence and power.
1978-1986
The black nameplate was finally replaced with the green logo we know from today. All the inscriptions except for the company’s name were discontinued. The Z-shaped line, connecting Land and Rover words, turned into two small signs which are believed to reflect the company’s motto ‘Above and Beyond’.
1986-2013
The logo we know today was born in 1986 and only slightly refined during the years. The simple and strong lettering is executed in a font from Gill Sans Family, which is simple yet reflects the brand’s functionality and quality.
2013-Now
Today the Land Rover Logo is a classic emerald/forest green, which some would call a British Racing Green. The border and text color changed to white so it pops out from the rich green background.
